March 4-5 Public Sessions to Focus on Reusable Healthcare Textiles

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NAS) will host a March 4-5 virtual public workshop to examine opportunities to increase the use of reusable healthcare textiles (HCTs) as personal protective equipment (PPE) in healthcare settings. The event is taking place in part because of TRSA’s advocacy with Congress to prompt these facilities to consider a more favorable balance in their inventories of reusables versus disposables.

Ecotex, K-Bro Cited in Canadian Reusable PPE Research

Research led by the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care on personal protective equipment (PPE), intentionally designed and manufactured as reusable, including gowns, goggles, face shields and elastomeric respirators, was conducted to identify prospects for reducing plastic PPE waste with a focus on opportunities for reduction and reuse in the health system. Most of the PPE used in Canada is made of plastic, and much of it is disposable, according to a news release.

TRSA Announces Plans for Certification Programs

Balfurd Taps $237,000-Plus in Grants, Utility Savings

Laundry operators typically scoff when they hear “We’re from the government and we’re here to help.” But in the case of Balfurd Linen and Uniform Co., Tipton, PA, access to state and federal grant money for improving energy efficiency is generating a big payback, including a $182,976 grant for new dryers that are expected to net the company $54,630 in yearly utility-cost savings. A similar grant request is in the works for a new tunnel washer, according to a news release from the Penn State Technical Assistance Program (PennTAP).
