Ecolab Inc., St Paul, MN, notched a second-place finish in Newsweek’s recently released 2017 list of the top 500 publicly held U.S. companies that qualified for its “U.S. 500 Green Rankings.” Ecolab’s score was exceeded only by that of Cisco Systems Inc., which earned the top ranking, according to a news release and the magazine’s complete list.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by Newsweek’s Annual Green Rankings,” said Emilio Tenuta, Ecolab vice president of corporate sustainability. “Our commitment to operating responsibly and sustainably is core to our culture and demonstrated both within our own operations and at the more than 1 million customer locations we serve throughout the world.”

Twenty-seventeen is the fourth consecutive year that Ecolab has scored in the top 10 in Newsweek’s U.S. Green Rankings. In 2016, Ecolab scored sixth in the U.S. rankings and 13th in the magazine’s Global rankings, the release said.

Newsweek’s Green Rankings represent an assessment of the sustainability performance of the 500 largest publicly traded companies in the U.S. and the 500 largest publicly traded companies globally by revenue. Newsweek partnered with Corporate Knights and HIP Investor to measure the companies based on eight key environmental performance indicators, including energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water use and waste.
