Mission Linen Supply, Santa Barbara, CA, recently received the City of Santa Barbara’s 2017 Water Hero Award, according to a news release. This annual recognition program honors individuals, businesses and organizations that go the extra mile in their water-conservation efforts and serve as strong examples of resource efficiency in their communities.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for something so near to our hearts,” said John Ross, Mission president and CEO. “All of us at Mission are deeply committed to protecting the environment and have been ever since the company was founded in 1930. We believe it is our responsibility to treat water as the vulnerable resource that it is, and we’ll never stop looking for new and better ways to conserve.”

The Water Hero Award was the third such recognition that Mission Linen has received in recent months, the release said. In 2017, the company also received the Sustainability Leadership Award from the Business Intelligence Group and a silver “Best in Business” award in the Most Environmentally Responsible Company of the Year category.

Saving water has a long history at Mission Linen. In 1973, the company installed one of the industry’s first wastewater-recycling systems. Now, across 44 locations, Mission’s water-conservation efforts are saving a total of roughly 141 million gallons per year. The Santa Barbara location alone conserves 5.22 million gallons of water annually by minimizing its use of water in wash processes and through the implementation of various water-reclamation and recycling efforts.
