TRSA Mobilizing CA Leg-Con for August

TRSA members with operations or business interests in California are strongly encouraged to join with colleagues for a legislative outreach effort set for next month in Sacramento. The TRSA program, slated for Aug. 14-15, will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn how two legislative initiatives facing the California General Assembly will impact their businesses. They’ll also get advice on how to apply for a state grant to upgrade delivery trucks to meet low-emission standards.

There’s no registration fee for TRSA’s California Legislative Conference; attendees cover only their travel and hotel costs. There also is no official event hotel; attendees should stay wherever they’re most comfortable. The meetings will be held downtown at the Sutter Club.

The two initiatives noted above include:

  • AB 2679 – Authored by Assembly Member Patrick O’Donnell (D-Long Beach), it directs the California Department of Health to reform the outdated Title 22 regulation that requires a prescriptive method of laundering healthcare linens of 160º F for 24 minutes. The update should include more modern, effective and efficient methods of laundering.
  • AB 2379 (polyester bill) – Introduced by Assembly Member Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica), it requires any clothing composed of more than 50% synthetic material to have a label that states “sheds plastic microfibers when washed. Hand washing recommended to reduce shedding.”

In addition to reviewing these initiatives and speaking with legislators about them in visits arranged by TRSA to the state capitol, you’ll get an update on the “Last Mile Delivery” initiative of the California Air Resources Board and learn how companies can receive grant money from the California state government to defray the costs of updating delivery trucks to low emissions.

The meeting will conclude with a debrief lunch to discuss information gathered and next steps. The Sutter Club is located at 1220 9th St., Sacramento, CA 95814.

Anyone with questions should contact TRSA’s Vice President of Government Relations Kevin Schwalb at kschwalb@trsa.org.
