A new type of TRSA virtual roundtable discussion – programmed by and for GMs – is set for Jan. 26, the first of two of these scheduled for 2023. These roundtables aim to support GMs’ core function of providing direction, leadership and management to laundry-management teams in support of their mission: on-time delivery of quality products at a reasonable cost while maintaining a clean, safe and highly efficient operation.

Topics for the premiere, set for 1 p.m. EST:

  • Building the Plant’s Middle Management Team. Participants will share ideas for hiring and training GMs’ direct management reports and guiding them in overseeing their plant departments. Also to be covered: sharing responsibility with department managers for personnel evaluation and discipline-related matters involving line employees.
  • Recruiting Maintenance/Engineering from Other Industries. Learn about TRSA’s partnership in the Engineering and Science Career Network, which companies can access by advertising openings in the TRSA Career Center. TRSA listings are repeated at no charge in Career Centers of relevant network partner associations, such as those in manufacturing.
  • Employee Retention. Get tips to go beyond increasing pay as a means of meeting employees’ needs. The discussion will cover psychological influences on retention, such as initiatives, projects and processes that make workers more masterful, in jobs that are, as much as possible, more skills-based, autonomous, connected, interesting or purposeful.

GMs who have participated in developing the roundtable programming include:

  • Peter Brown, Mickey’s Linen, Chicago
  • Matt Callope, Huebsch Services, Eagan, MN
  • Kelley Dixon, St. Croix Linen, St. Paul, MN
  • Brandon Divers, Alsco, Alexandria, VA
  • Chris Hawa, Cooperative Laundry, San Marcos, TX
  • Paul Jewison, Textile Care Services, Rochester, MN
  • Chad Laframboise, Northern Uniform, Sudbury, Ontario
  • Rick Snyder, U.S. Linen & Uniform, Richland, WA
  • Kenny Stewart, Service Uniform, San Antonio, TX

GMs are encouraged to use this roundtable to take advantage of industry peers’ insights and expertise for strategic planning. Participation will support GMs’ interaction with senior management, their efforts to contribute to their companies’ direction and focus, and their personal strategies for achieving short- and long-range goals.
