TRSA Gets Industry Tax Break Legislation Introduced in Texas

Texas state Rep. Drew Darby (R) introduced Texas HB 1089 on Jan. 25. The bill, if passed, will redefine “retail trade” to include the linen, uniform and facility services industry in the Texas tax code and will cut the retail sales tax for the industry significantly from 0.75% to 0.35%.

TRSA Testifies for Bill to Even Playing Field for Uniform Rental

Josh Wildman, CEO of Wildman Business Group, recently testified before the Indiana State Senate Committee on Pensions and Labor. He spoke in favor of SB 99, legislation that would update the Wage Assessment Act of 2015 to allow employers to deduct the cost of uniform rental directly from a worker’s paycheck, with the worker’s approval. Also attending in support of this legislation was Tim Uhlmansiek from Plymate Inc., Shelbyville, IN. Wildman Business Group is based in Warsaw, IN.

UniFirst Ends 2018 with 40+ Hygienically Clean Certified Laundries

Three more UniFirst laundries earned the Hygienically Clean Food Safety certification during the final quarter of 2018. UniFirst Corp. now has more than 40 facilities that have reached this milestone. UniFirst facilities recently certified include: Taylor, MI, Albany, NY and Sumter, SC. Their Charlotte, NC location also qualified for renewal of its Food Safety certification for another three years.

Shutdown Relief: Alsco Gift Helps Keep Utah Parks Open

Amid the longest partial shutdown of the federal government in history (closed since Dec. 22, 2018, with plans to temporarily reopen announced on Jan. 25), Alsco Inc. recently stepped up to assist with a $100,000 donation to not-for-profit groups working to keep several of Utah’s national parks open to the public.

UniFirst Employee Celebrates 50-Year Work Anniversary

UniFirst Corp. recently honored its longest serving full-time employee team partner, Mittie Barber, who recently celebrated her 50th anniversary with the company. UniFirst held a surprise celebration at the Dothan, AL, plant where Barber works as a uniform and garment mender, according to a news release.

TRSA Hosts Regional Event in Los Angeles

Nearly 50 linen, uniform and facility services executives attended a TRSA Regional Event including a briefing on key regulatory and legislative issues facing the industry. Local executives were joined by TRSA staff including President & CEO Joseph Ricci and Vice President of Government Relations and Certification Kevin Schwalb, as well as TRSA California Legislative Consultant R.J. Cervantes. Participants also enjoyed local networking during a TRSA-sponsored reception and dinner.

TRSA Awards: Feb. 1 Deadline Approaching

Members can win industrywide recognition of their own exemplary business practices by nominating themselves or honoring other companies’ achievements and excellence by nominating them. The program provides for multiple winners in each award category with operators (linen, uniform and facility services companies) and associates (supplier companies) eligible for each.
